Brakes usually warn you before they fail. Here is what the common signs tend to mean, and how soon they are worth looking at.
Squealing or high-pitched squeaking when you brake

Brake pads
The wear item that clamps the rotor. We measure what is left and replace them in pairs when they run low.
Rotors (discs)
Resurfaced or replaced when worn past spec, warped, or scored. Not always needed with a pad job.
Calipers & hardware
The clamp plus the pins, clips, and slides that all have to move freely for even, quiet braking.
Brake fluid
It absorbs moisture over time, which softens the pedal. A flush restores a firm, consistent feel.
ABS & sensors
When a warning light is on, we read the codes and diagnose the actual fault, not just reset it.
